Supporting healthcare professionals through challenging times

Previous work

Communicating through Covid: Supporting healthcare professionals non-verbal communication through arts-based education. A collaborative research project with Performing Medicine, People’s Palace Projects, QMUL, The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, GSTT, UCLH and Swansea Bay, supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (UKRI).

Based on interviews with healthcare professionals at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Trust, and input from two of our brilliant Associate Artists; Hazel Holder and Yolanda Vasquez, we created an interactive resource with accompanying audio guide to support easier and more effective communication whilst wearing a mask. Download the resource here.

During the pandemic, Performing Medicine launched our open programme offering workshops on managing stress, presentation skills, medicine and photography and anatomical art, all led by practitioners working across movement, voice and sculpture.

We have delivered several masterclasses at Cumberland Lodge for GP trainees and doctors. Sessions have included wellbeing, voice and neutral mask workshops.

Performing Medicine have worked closely with Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Trust to develop a bespoke new framework for compassionate care and accompanying training programme called Circle Of Care, which reached over 800 Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Trust staff when launched.
