Must

Must: the inside story is a performance written by Peggy Shaw and Suzy Willson with original music by Paul Clark. The show is performed by Peggy Shaw and three live musicians on violin, piano and double bass.

Must takes a sideways glance at the medical gaze and humorously questions the assumptions people make about each other’s bodies. The piece attempts to bring together a ‘medical’ view of her body (her injuries, her anatomical make-up, her age, gender and sexuality) with her own experience of her own body. The project is inspired by images from medieval medicine, The Elephant Man and the beautiful microscopic images of the medical profession.
